Otology: Ear and Hearing Care
The Otology Division treats medical and surgical problems of the ear in both pediatric and adult patients. Chronic infection may be treated medically or surgically depending on the situation. Middle and inner-ear testing is performed on site to assist diagnosis.
MYRINGOTOMY
Myringotomy is a quick outpatient procedure in which an ear, nose and throat specialist makes a tiny opening in the eardrum to drain trapped fluid and relieve pressure.
MENIERE’S DISEASE
Treatment may begin conservatively with a low-salt diet and medication. Steroid or gentamicin injections may be used for patients whose symptoms are not relieved with conservative therapy. Some patients may require surgical intervention to stabilize symptoms.
